How to Set Up Gmail Desktop Notifications – Gmail Tip

Getting email messages on the desktop lies in the hope of whenever such user is able to log into his or Gmail inbox.

This often makes some of us that have our day’s job tied around desktop miss some important emails. Most times, if we tend to track a certain email, it will amount to constant refreshing of the inbox to achieve that.

This is the sole reason Gmail introduced this feature that allows us to get instant Gmail Desktop Notifications. It prompts you each time a mail comes into your Gmail Inbox. But you must ensure that you have internet connection on your PC.

With this, you will not have to miss out of any email again mostly those important once. You will not need to constantly refresh you inbox again.

How to Set Up Gmail Desktop Notifications

To get this done, you will need to download an add-on for your  Chrome browser that supports popup. It will let you know when you have a new email message in your inbox or even chat message. This called Gchat.

This add-on allows chat notification by default but you can disable it from your Gmail settings.

How to disable or Enable Email or Chat notification

Click on the gear icon in your Gmail inbox, choose settings. Look out for the “General” tab and choose the option you wish to have on your “Desktop Notification” section. This option allows you to turn on or off chat notifications.

You will also see the option to enable notification for all incoming emails or solely for those marked “Important”. Once you are done with these options, click on save to save the entire settings.

With this you can now receive your emails notification when you are using your desktop. The only limitation is that this feature is only available on Google Chrome browser only for now.
